Includes material relating to Dyer's service as commander of the light cruiser Astoria during World War II, commander of the United Nations blockade and escort force during the Korean War, commandant of the Eleventh Naval District, and deputy commander of National War College, and his work with Navy Relief Society, and papers of James O. Richardson relating to Richardson's naval career and his testimony at the congressional hearings of the Joint Committee on the Investigation of the Pearl Harbor Attack. The U.S. Fleet Commander at the beginning of World War II, Richardson had told Franklin Delano Roosevelt that it was dangerous to move the Fleet from California to Hawaii in 1940.
